Review by Loto_Bak

Architecture & Layout:
The map "City" was originally created by rushprick for Action Quake 2. Being an old AQ2 player I knew the fun that I was in for but was interested in how the conversion went as other attempts at conversions that I've seen have failed , for example teamjungle. As this map is a direct conversion from the AQ2 version the architecture and layout are identical to the original (except for a bug with one of the doors). It is a small down town area with rooftops, windows to snipe from, and many objects to dive behind for cover. There are many routes that will get you to a location which makes sneaking more easy and much more fun. Since the map was originally created for AQ2 it may be a little more blocky than the average Action Half-life map but the excellent textures make up for this. Also the simplicity of the level keeps r_speeds reletivly low which is great for Internet play.

Looks:
Exactly like the original with better lighting. The textures are very well done although sometimes repetitive. A few textures were mis-placed (such as windows on the ciling above the police doors) but besides that all textures were aligned and appropriate. We'll that is not entirly true. Stinger, the person who converted this map, decided that it would be better if he loaded some of the textures into paint and used the spray paint tool on them. Owch, that makes this map look ugly at times. "Stinger owns doombank" ??? What is all this crap? It makes parts of the map look stupid. A conversion is just that, a conversion. No layout changes, maybe texture and lighting improvment but i would never call this graphitie an improvment. Personnaly I was appauled at seeing this because stinger wrote his name all over a map that he did not create. I really don't understand the motive. Besides these few textures changes, and some of the stairwells, this map looks really nice.

Gameplay:
This map plays like a dream. For the automatics there are many medium range fights and for thoes and cannon lovers there are many ways to sneak up on your opponents. Snipers tend to be killed easly due to the simple sneak attacks and pistols work great also at medium range. This map should support no more than 12 to 16 people and is excellent for teamplay. As I have said in previous review I like my action slower than some so the player limit could be higher. Gameplay is great on this map, there is flow, central areas and fun rooms.

Item Placement:
Unique weapons are common which makes for more powerful gameplay and races to get a specific weapon. Ammo and items are common as Ammo populates most any where you go and items apear at DM spawn locations. The common weapons make for faster, more exciting gameplay. The pistol and shotgun ammo seems to be more plentiful than other types but this did not apear to hamper the gameplay at all

Other:
|| conversion || -- The conversion was well done. One door will only open one way and the changed textures are sad, the radio cannot be turned on and off, or blown up. Besides these things the conversion was flawless.

Conclusion:
This map is fun, and a looker. I was dissapointed with some areas of the conversion but I have learned to ignore these problems and enjoy memories of AQ2 in the city. Overall a great map that has awesome gameplay
