Hypersanctum... Saturday, December 15, 2001 - =Skunk=
Here's what Jinx has to say...

It took forever but ahl_hypersanctum is coming out soon! I'm looking to release this weekend, and you can check out beta2 at the iSk server/map party tonight.

Hypersanctum is a surreal, atmospheric map of an underground sanctuary with a cathedral, a subterranean stream, and more. It is meant for larger team and dm games, and is set up with diving and stunts in mind.

[iSk] Map Pack Saturday, December 15, 2001 - =Skunk=
Edit: The link to the mappack now works - you might need to refresh

The [iSk] relaunch party is this Monday, December 10th at 8pm EST.

The servers that the party will take place on will be:

The [iSk] server (IP not confirmed yet), One of Fatbastards servers (207.49.113.151:27018  /   207.49.113.151:27017) New Schoool LMS server (207.71.236.180:27015) and possibly the Quadspeed servers. (194.134.32.247:27015  /  194.134.32.247:27025)

Some of these servers will have "[iSk] relaunch party" in the name.

The Map Pack is available from here

[iSk] relaunch Saturday, December 15, 2001 - =Skunk=
FiEnD from clan [iSk] sends word of a relaunch of their clan and a new server with custom maps, I'll be hosting the custom map pack here when its done next week sometime, here's what FiEnD has to say...

"The clan decided the default AHL maps are starting to get boring, so what are we going to do about it? Have a party, a new maps/[iSk] relaunch party!

We are having some of the best AHL mappers showcased. We will have a map pack available here and at www.quadspeed.com at the beginning of the month.

Keep checking the [iSk] website for more details!"

Dayshift Saturday, December 15, 2001 - =Skunk=
A fairly new map from Bulletbait has just come to my attention, its a re-make of Nighshift11 from Beta 3.5 I think?

I havn't had a chance to play it but it has had a good response on the message boards.

Updates will be a lot better once the new site is done, just thought I'd add this in the mean time :)

A reminder Saturday, December 15, 2001 - Hondo
Remember, if you submit any maps to me now, I'll delete the mail and hate you! Skunk is the one to contact on that.

The Future of the AHLMD and AHLMAPS Saturday, December 15, 2001 - =Skunk=
As many of you have probably noticed updates on both AHLMAPS and here on the AHLMD have been pretty rare lately, for those of you that don’t know I run AHLMAPS and Hondo has been running the AHLMD, Hondo just hasn’t had the time and I have been busy trying to convert AHLMAPS to run scripts.

Hondo has now given me full control of this site so I have decided to merge the two sites, I havn’t decided on exactly what I’m going to do but I’ll try and have some kind of plan sorted over the weekend, if you have any comments/suggestions please go here

Three more Saturday, December 15, 2001 - Hondo
First, Plextrains by Plexor.

It's plural because there are two. This adds quite a bit extra to gameplay. In other respects, it's like any other train map, but it's pleasant and fun and the polycount is low.

Next, Training Grounds by Spite

Another "fun" map, Training Grounds is an odd map but it's made with stunts and enjoyable fights in mind. There's cover everywhere. Suited to DM mainly.

Finally, Abaddon by WinterMute

The name comes from the Hebrew word meaning "place of destruction." It's a cathedral with some outdoor portions and a network of underground rooms.
This map has had a lot done to it since the early beta some of you may have tried. For one, the polycount is now decent outside. Also, the underground portion has been expanded and improved. It looks good in general and has many places that facilitate interesting tactics. Get it or something.

Love and peace.

Finally. Saturday, December 15, 2001 - Hondo
Three maps are up.

Action Studios Inc. by LtChambers.

This takes place in and around a film studio HQ (so no studio lots or film equipment or any of that, but a lot of movie-related things).
It's fairly large and complex and it's a fun map with a good theme for AHL.

Tokyo by Marius Gehrke.

If you think you've seen this before, you have. It was an AQ2 map originally, and an AHL conversion was submitted to here a few months ago. The speeds were kind of high and there was a problem or two, so since then he fixed all that and resubmitted it. The old filename was tokyo, and this is ahl_tokyo just to differentiate. I'm leaving both up in case anyone needs the old one ever.
This map is a city block with a couple building interiors. It's dark and pleasant looking, and has that distinct AQ2 feel to it.

Papa Malignon's Funeral by DeepQantas.

One of the nicest looking maps I've seen in a while, the setting is a mob funeral in a large decorated church. Gunfights always start over those. Anyway, the theme is great and it looks good and seems fun, so I recommend it highly.

That's all.

Current news Saturday, December 15, 2001 - Hondo
I got back from VACATION* this week but immediately started back at school, so I've been lazy and tired and busy. I have 4+ maps waiting for me, so there will be stuff soon probably. I also might get someone to handle map submissions soon so I can have absolutely no responsibility left except for writing more useless scripts and shouting at people.

I'll get to the stuff tomorrow definately.

Hadley's Hope, some links Saturday, December 15, 2001 - Hondo
Andrew Wills sent in Hadley's Hope. It has an Alien™ theme, and looks quite nice. This is the "small" version. I think it was cut down to improve gameplay, though it also includes stuff that the original lacks. It's atmospheric and has a lot of nice effects throughout, and it looks like it would play well.

Next, I added a link to Crinity, a texture, sky, prefab, map, and mod site. There's a lot of great content to be had here.

I also moved all the "free texture links" into the main links page.

I'll be gone for a little over a week now. I don't think anything important will happen in that span of time so I probably won't get anyone to fill in.

Also: The message board is back.

VACATION Saturday, December 15, 2001 - Hondo
I have up to three maps to release and a couple random things.

I'm going to be gone starting Sunday (8/26) for about a week. So be sure to send me lots of e-mail so I can come back to 600 messages and hang myself instantly.

Also if you don't know, the redesigned and reopened AHLMaps.com is holding a contest. I was originally going to do one, but then I found out about theirs and with me being busy and now gone for a week and with the redundancy factor, I'm leaving the idea alone.

However, I will make an official pack of the winners for download whenever it's over, to encourage a little custom map play on servers.

Down Town Ghetto War Saturday, December 15, 2001 - Hondo
I've got SolidSnake's map ahl_downtown up.

There's a beautiful and atmospheric underground bar. Across the street you have some apartments. The map is designed with DM and LMS in mind.

Update: It's downloadable now.

Script stuff Saturday, December 15, 2001 - Hondo
Recent changes:

- Maps are now dated.
- Map archive now shows average review score if the map has been reviewed.
- Ace12ga sent me a newer and more functional news script. I'd h4x0r it to look like the old one but I'm lazy and this looks pretty nice.

New map: Train Saturday, December 15, 2001 - Hondo
Train by Duion is released.

It's a train speeding along the countryside. A complete interior and exterior. A bit like the Solder of Fortune train level. The speeds stay under 1000 the entire time, which is pretty amazing. At one end it's 650, the other is 850. Definately acceptable for something like this. It looks nice too. The choices in env map and textures make for a very pleasant map.

One more thing I love, is that you don't die when you hit the ground. You only die when you hit the back of the map. This really adds a lot to gameplay, because you can dive out of the windows and then jump back on the train before it leaves you behind. I've got to recommend this map.

*** I also archived news previous to July 2001. You can view it on the left there, Dec 00 - Jun 01.

IRC channel Saturday, December 15, 2001 - Hondo
Updates come in bursts, it seems. Anyway, if you're not aware, the official AHL mapping channel is #ahl_mapping on irc.gamesnet.net.
